Our philosophy of missions can be summed up in this simple statement: Lost People Matter.  You will find that Mission Dorado is one of the most givingest churches that you will ever see, and that we are genuinely passionate about seeing lives changed. Therefore our participation in missions includes both financial and physical efforts.

The following surmises a few ways that we participate in missions.

We give 10% of our annual budget to the Cooperative Program (CP). Through the CP, we participate with thousands of churches who cooperate together in order to place hundreds of missionaries in the field.  Through this program we are able to provide the largest and most effective missions program in the world.  We participate in the CP specifically through the Southern Baptists of Texas Convention.  You can read more about the CP here.
It is impossible for us to reach every area of our city and the world alone, so we feel it necessary to plant churches that will be able to.  As of now we have one mission church in Greenwood, Texas (Fellowship Baptist Church) and we are gearing up to partner with the International Mission Board (IMB) to consider planting a church in the midst of an unreached people group in Africa. We also hosted Beit Haderekh Church in the early years of their fellowship in order to help them get started.
The International Mission Board has established that there are 3,800 unengaged people groups in the world.  They have challenged Southern Baptist Churches to consider adopting a group and strategizing a way to reach them. Please be in prayer for our Task Force Team as they pray and seek God's will in how we can partner in this endeavor. We have narrowed down our target area to sub-saharan Africa.
We honor the first Sunday in November as Orphan Sunday in order to educate one another on the needy children of the world. Our pastor and his wife are currently in the early stages of the adoption process and are committed to sharing their heart for orphans with others.
Our church supports the efforts of the Birthright organization in Odessa, encouraging others to take a pro-life stance on the life of the unborn.

On the first Tuesday of every month (not including the summer) we meet to go and visit both members and prospects who have expressed an interest in our church.  We believe that this captures the heart of Christ in that it both reaches the lost and encourages the found.
During the summer we offer "random" opportunities to reach out to the community.  These opportunities can consist of being door greeters at local restaurants to handing out water bottles in grocery store parking lots.  The idea is to change people's hearts with our hands.

We take up three mission offerings a year, including:
  • Annie Armstrong Easter Offering for North American Missions
  • Reach Texas Offering for Texas Missions
  • Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for National Missions
  • We also retain 1% of our monthly offerings for local missions.
